August = hot & fun
We began it with a great BBQ of shish ka bobs
Last weekend we took a "bike" ride up to Bear Lake. Since Alex and I don't have a motorcycle we drove our car as well as did Ben's girlfriend Maria and the kids.
(It's really hard to get a focused picture of people riding in front of you)
On our way up, family tradition stopped us at Ben's Burger Bar in Roy.
It was a hot ride and even Zeus had a nibble of a milkshake.
It's FAMOUS
We've been going there for years. My aunt owns a Wedding shop on this same street.
By the time we got to Camperworld, we were setting our tents up in the dark. Good thing we had several headlights to shine on us.
Five tents all together, we had ourselves a little tent village.
"Natural" improvisation is why I love camping. Logs can be versatile!
Saturday we took a trip to the Ice Cave. It was really cool to see a cave where ice was still frozen, in the middle of August.
You can imagine how dark it was inside....and cold
The gang
It was the perfect temperature for a trip to the Lake. The water has risen so much that we had TONS of "warm" water to wade around in, or make sand castles/volcanoes.
Of course camping means hot dogs and marshmallows!
My dad's own creation. We've named gushers. We don't use graham crackers, so the marshmallows get stuffed with chocolate.... or mini reeses' or whaterver
Sunday we crossed the border to the Minnatonka cave
444 steps one way means we climbed 888 steps... no need for the stair master ;)
We learned the difference between stalagtites that hang "tight" to the ceiling, or stalagmites that "might" reach the top. Thanks to these 7 dwarfs to help us figure it out.
They said not to touch.... but this one was just so smooth.
Ok, ok they gave us permission to touch just this one.
Then it was back to Utah ... ELEVATED
Of course the trip wouldn't have been complete without a raspberry shake!!
DELISH at Bear Lake and perfectly melted in the heat
